If you have spent any time in a gym you have probably faced a wall of supplement products and wondered which ones are worth taking, and whether combining them does anything useful. Supplement stacking is the practice of combining multiple products strategically to enhance training performance, recovery and body composition outcomes.
When done thoughtfully, stacking works. The supplement industry is also cluttered with products that overstate their effects, underdose ingredients and rely on marketing rather than science. This guide focuses on evidence-based combinations and how the Inception Labs range at Inception Gym gives members a complete, scientifically formulated stack.
What is supplement stacking?
Stacking simply means taking two or more supplements together or in a timed sequence to produce a combined effect greater than any single product alone. The concept is well supported in sports nutrition research, particularly for foundational combinations like creatine and protein, or caffeine with training-specific nutrients.
The key principles of effective stacking:
- Complementary mechanisms: Each product should work via a different pathway, so effects add rather than overlap
- Clinical dosing: Every ingredient should be present at the dose shown to be effective in research, not token amounts added for label appeal
- Timing alignment: Some supplements need to be taken at specific times relative to training to be effective
This is where many supplement brands fall short. They combine ingredients at sub-clinical doses, rely on proprietary blends that obscure what you are actually getting, and price products as if complexity equals quality. Inception Labs takes the opposite approach: transparent formulation, Creapure-sourced creatine, clinically dosed nootropics, and no filler.
The foundation stack
Before building a complex stack, three products form the evidence-based foundation for almost every training goal.
Creatine monohydrate
Creatine is the most researched performance supplement in existence. It increases phosphocreatine stores in muscle, which improves power output, strength and recovery between sets. Meta-analyses show 5-15% improvements in strength and lean mass gains compared to training without supplementation.
Sourcing matters. Inception Labs Creatine Monohydrate uses Creapure, German-sourced creatine manufactured to pharmaceutical standards, HPLC verified, vegan certified and banned-substance tested. Available at member pricing at the on-site store.
Stack timing: 3-5g daily, any time of day, consistently. Timing relative to training matters less than consistency.
Protein
Protein is not just a post-workout drink. It is a daily nutritional requirement most people struggle to hit through food alone. For muscle protein synthesis to be maximised, you need 1.6-2.2g of protein per kilogram of bodyweight daily, distributed across meals.
Inception Labs Collagen Whey Protein combines whey isolate with bovine collagen. The dual-action formula addresses both muscle recovery (via the whey isolate's leucine content) and joint and connective tissue health (via the collagen peptides). Under heavy training volume, that second function matters.
Stack timing: between meals or post-training to hit daily protein targets.
Pre-workout
A quality pre-workout addresses the demands of training: energy, focus, endurance, blood flow. Inception Labs Valor Pre-Workout contains 350mg of caffeine alongside Alpha GPC for nootropic-driven focus.
The difference from cheap pre-workouts is the nootropic component. Caffeine alone produces energy but can also produce anxiety and a mid-session crash. Alpha GPC supports acetylcholine production, which improves cognitive focus and neuromuscular coordination. The result is sustained energy with sharper focus.
Stack timing: 20-30 minutes pre-training.
The foundation stack in practice
Combining creatine, protein and pre-workout covers the three most impactful supplementation windows:
- Pre-training: Valor Pre-Workout (energy, focus, endurance)
- Daily/post-training: Collagen Whey Protein (recovery, MPS, joint health)
- Daily, any time: Creatine Monohydrate (strength, power, lean mass)
A consistent, evidence-based approach that addresses the major gaps in most training diets.
Intermediate stacks: targeted products
Once the foundation is established and you have been training consistently for six or more months, targeted products can address specific goals.
Fat loss focus: 1510 Fat Incinerator
For body composition improvement, Inception Labs 1510 Fat Incinerator extends the fat-burning effect of training by increasing thermogenesis, activating brown adipose tissue, and providing nootropic focus without the jitters of high-stimulant fat burners.
Stacked with the foundation, 1510 works via mechanisms that complement rather than duplicate Valor. If caffeine sensitivity is a concern, adjust or eliminate the pre-workout on days you take 1510.
Stack timing: morning or pre-training. Avoid taking within 6 hours of sleep.
Muscle building focus: Ichor
For members whose goal is lean muscle gain, Inception Labs Ichor uses SERM technology for muscle building and simultaneous fat reduction. A dual-action formula at clinical dosing with a two-ingredient design.
Ichor stacks cleanly with creatine and protein. The mechanistic distinction means the products work on different pathways without interference.
Stack timing: as directed on the product label. Consistent daily use is key.
Men's health: Transcend test booster
Transcend is a natural testosterone support formula targeting strength, recovery, mood and lean muscle. For men over 30 where natural testosterone has begun to decline, it can be a useful addition.
The stack here is Transcend plus creatine plus protein, covering hormonal support, phosphocreatine synthesis and recovery. Adding Valor pre-workout completes the performance protocol.
The complete Inception Labs stack
| Purpose | Product | Stack Position | |---------|---------|---------------| | Daily strength and power | Creatine Monohydrate | Daily foundation | | Recovery and joint health | Collagen Whey Protein | Post-training or daily | | Training performance | Valor Pre-Workout | Pre-training | | Body composition | 1510 Fat Incinerator or Ichor | Goal-dependent | | Hormonal optimisation (men) | Transcend | Daily support |
Not everyone needs every product. But having access to all of them at member pricing on the way into or out of a session is a real advantage.
Member pricing
Every Inception Labs product is available at the on-site Supplement Solutions store at member pricing, up to 40% off retail.
A member buying one Creatine and one Collagen Whey Protein per month makes a meaningful saving against retail, which offsets a portion of monthly membership cost. Two or three products and the supplement savings cover a substantial part of what you pay for the gym.

Timing your stack: a sample day
A typical training day with a foundation stack:
Morning (non-training day):
- Creatine with breakfast (3-5g, any time)
- Protein shake if dietary protein is tracking low
Training day:
- Creatine with first meal
- Valor Pre-Workout 20-30 minutes before training
- Collagen Whey Protein within the post-training window (30-90 minutes after)
Evening:
- Ensure daily protein target is met through food and supplementation combined
Consistency matters more than perfect timing.
Common stacking mistakes
Stacking stimulants carelessly. If you are taking a pre-workout with 350mg of caffeine and also adding a fat burner with significant caffeine, the combined stimulant load can cause anxiety, poor sleep and cardiovascular stress. Read labels and track total daily caffeine.
Skipping the foundation for the fancy stuff. Some members rush to advanced products like SERMs or test boosters without creatine, protein and consistent nutrition in place. The foundation delivers the largest returns. Build that first.
Treating supplements as a substitute for training quality. A well-formulated pre-workout will improve a hard session. It will not make a half-effort session effective.
Ignoring whole food nutrition. For a personalised approach to nutrition that integrates supplement use, Inception Nutrition provides PhD-led coaching built around your body composition data, training demands and goals.
